Echoes of Chopin in Galicia. Karol Mikuli and His Piano Miniatures

Author’s lecture combined with a recital

60–70 minutes

This lecture is dedicated to Karol Mikuli – an outstanding pianist, composer, pedagogue, and one of Fryderyk Chopin’s most important and trusted students. Mikuli played a crucial role in preserving and passing on Chopin’s performance tradition, becoming one of its key representatives in Galicia.

During the meeting, participants will discover the figure of the composer, his artistic path, pedagogical activity, and the cultural and musical context of 19th-century Galicia – an important center of musical life in Central and Eastern Europe.

The lecture includes live performances of selected waltzes, nocturnes, and mazurkas by Karol Mikuli, including works featured on the debut album “From Lviv to Paris” and the second album “From Paris to Lviv” by pianist Weronika Chodakowska, the creator of this project.

Echoes of Folk Inspirations in the Music of Fryderyk Chopin

Author’s lecture combined with a recital

60–70 minutes

This lecture explores the influence of Polish folk music on Chopin’s works. Through live musical examples, it demonstrates how the composer drew from folk traditions and transformed them into his unique musical language.

Participants will learn to recognize the characteristic features of Polish national dances (mazur, polonaise, kujawiak), understand their presence in piano music, and discover how folk traditions also influenced the works of Chopin’s students.

The lecture may be combined with a short piano recital featuring works by Fryderyk Chopin as well as original compositions by Weronika.
