„Mikuli was fortunate that his music attracted the interest of Weronika Chodakowska. The pianist didn’t so much capture as distill the essence of Mikuli’s style. In her playing, I admire her rhythmic sensitivity, intelligent rubato, and a veil of nostalgia. Chodakowska does not declaim; rather, she is an apostle of the forgotten shadows of the past.”

„From Lviv to Paris”

Weronika Chodakowska’s debut album From Lviv to Paris features premiere recordings of piano works by Karol Mikuli—one of Fryderyk Chopin’s most important pupils. It is the first-ever monographic album devoted to the piano music of the composer born in Chernivtsi.

The compositions recorded on this disc reveal a cross-section of the composer’s rich creative imagination, drawing both on the Chopinesque tradition and on a style inspired by the folklore of Bukovina as well as the achievements of the German Romantics.

Thanks to the recordings presented on this album, we can be transported to Lviv in the second half of the 19th century, when in many a salon—alongside Chopin’s masterpieces—Mikuli’s beautiful piano works could also be heard.
